Tasks in Reminders, events in Calendar

An all-day “take out the bins” in the week view of a calendar looks like a meeting. It is not. It is a chore. Apple already splits this: Reminders and Calendar.

Chores belong in Reminders. Events belong in Calendar.

On Family Plus, HugoFamily runs as a calendar server. You add an account — like any other CalDAV. On the phone you see two lists, both named HugoFamily. The parentheses only tell them apart.

What you see today

In Reminders you open the list HugoFamily (tasks). Your open chores are there — dated or not. Undated chores often are not in Today or Scheduled. They are on that list, and usually in All.

In Calendar there is the list HugoFamily (events). Today it is empty of chores on purpose. Chores do not belong there. Household events you plan in the app in HugoCalendar. They will arrive in this calendar when event packing is done — not before.

HugoTasks is a module in the app. It is not a second brand on the phone.

How to turn it on

Me → Calendar integration → add CalDAV. Server calendar.hugofamily.app, the name from Me, the password shown only once. On iPhone turn on Calendars and Reminders. In Reminders, turn on the list HugoFamily (tasks).

Name each device. There are at most five passwords. You revoke a lost phone with one key. The chores in HugoFamily stay.

A new reminder on HugoFamily (tasks) becomes your HugoTask. An event created in Calendar on HugoFamily (events) does not create a chore.

Children, not surveillance

A child with their own Plus sign-in turns on their own account. They see their chores. Not a sibling list and not parental control.

Subscribe and Google are different bridges

Calendar subscribe and connected Google still show dated chores as all-day items in the calendar. CalDAV does this more honestly on Apple: a chore is a chore. When events travel to the phone, chores will stay in Reminders.

HugoFamily is a family organizer and household management app that helps families manage shopping, responsibilities, meals, money, household information and everyday family life together.
