Chores on the phone you already use
You already open the calendar on the phone. Reminders too. Household chores still live in chats, on the fridge, and in one person’s head.
That is not because you have the wrong calendar. A calendar is good at when. It is not good at who is carrying it, what was promised, and who should do what tomorrow.
HugoFamily stays the place the household owns chores.
The phone is another place you see them — not a second calendar app.
On Family Plus, your open HugoTasks appear where you already look. Not every chore in the household. Yours.
This is not another calendar
Families do not need another app competing with Apple Calendar or Google Calendar. They need chores to show up where attention already is.
Events — the dentist, flute, the weekend — you plan in HugoFamily in the HugoCalendar module. That is in the app, for a family on Family or Family Plus. Those events do not go to the phone yet. Today the phone carries chores.
Me (avatar at the top right) → Calendar integration is a different thing from HugoCalendar. The integration is a bridge to your phone. HugoCalendar is where the household plans events.
Three bridges, three kinds of trust
Plus offers three paths. They are not three names for the same thing.
Calendar subscription
The simplest path. HugoFamily gives you a private address. Apple, Google as a URL, or Outlook fetch it. The phone only reads. An edit on the phone does not come back to HugoFamily. You see dated chores assigned to you, as all-day items. Refresh can take minutes — on Apple, easily around half an hour. We do not promise an instant.
Connect Google
HugoFamily creates its own calendar named HugoFamily in the Google account. It does not write into your personal main calendar. Dated chores assigned to you appear there. A change in that calendar can update your HugoTask. Disconnecting stops the bridge; the calendar stays in Google until you delete it there.
This is not a shared family calendar and it is not HugoCalendar. It is your chore list in Google.
CalDAV account
HugoFamily is a calendar server. On iPhone you add an account at calendar.hugofamily.app. Reminders show the list HugoFamily (tasks) — chores with a due date and without. Calendar shows HugoFamily (events). That list is empty of chores on purpose: chores belong in Reminders. Events are planned in the app and will arrive in Calendar when that work is done.
Each device gets a labelled password. At most five. You revoke a lost phone without changing how you sign in to HugoFamily.
What does not appear on the phone
Someone else’s chores. Unfinished shopping. Meals. Pocket money. Undated chores in subscribe and in Google. Events from HugoCalendar. The whole family dumped onto one parent’s account.
When you complete a chore in HugoFamily, it leaves the phone on the next refresh.
Who turns it on
Every approved member with a sign-in, on Family Plus. A child with their own account sees their chores — not parental surveillance. Member A does not see member B’s bridges.
In more detail: how chores behave in Reminders, and why Google gets its own calendar, not your main one.
